AI case summaries

ICLR has always offered great value for money as part of our original mission. We constantly invest in new technology to make access to case law easier and more useful. As part of this commitment ICLR has recently introduced AI generated case summaries to unreported judgment transcripts.

These summaries are a straightforward and fast way to get an understanding about what the case is about – they don’t go into great detail, they do not purport to be able to accurately distinguish the legal doctrine at hand, instead they simply give a “top down” view of the case in conjunction with a handy list of issues discussed within the case.

Since last year these summaries, supplied by Jurisage, have been displayed for any unreported cases in the list of results after a conventional search or suggested search via Case Genie.

The summaries and list of issues will now appear in the Case Info page of any unreported case:

The summaries are supplied by Jurisage and will be replaced, if and when the case is reported by ICLR, with our own human-generated subject matter catchwords. When a case has been reported by ICLR, therefore, the AI generated summary will not be displayed.

These summaries will only be visible to subscribers. You will need to be logged in to see them, along with certain other “value added” elements of content on the Case Info (formerly known as the “index card”) page, such as the lists of legislation considered, and the cases cited or considered in the judgment, and the later cases which may have cited it.

You will also need a subscription to see any of the full text law reports which ICLR has been publishing since 1865.

Unreported judgment transcripts, which are derived from The National Archives or other open justice sources, are accessible to the general public as well as subscribers, as are the human-generated WLR Daily case summaries of reportable new cases.
